Configure Ubuntu Pro for your business

Choose which machines to cover, the security coverage and Canonical support. We send you a proposal with the subscription and our part of the work: setup, migration and support in your language.

How Ubuntu Pro is counted

Ubuntu Pro is per machine per year. A physical server covers every virtual machine running on it, and on AWS, Azure or Google Cloud it is billed by the hour on the provider's bill.

If you also want someone to look after your servers day to day, that is SIXE UP. And if you are coming from another distribution, see migrating to Ubuntu from Red Hat and SUSE.

Frequently asked questions

Why are there no prices here?

Canonical publishes list prices per machine per year, and they are the starting point. The final figure changes with the number of machines, the support you choose and the work we do, such as a migration or the rollout. From what you tick in the configurator, we send you a complete proposal.

What is the difference between Weekday, 24/7 and no Canonical support?

Weekday covers Monday to Friday, 24 hours a day, with a first response to a critical issue within 4 hours. 24/7 covers every day, with a first response to a critical issue within one hour. The full response times are on Canonical's support page. Support can cover the infrastructure only or the open source applications as well; we set that out in the proposal. Without Canonical support you still get Ubuntu Pro, with its patches and Livepatch, but you do not open cases with them, and our support can cover that.

Are virtual machines charged separately?

Not if they run on a server you cover: the server subscription includes unlimited virtual machines on that host. If your virtual machines run on a hypervisor you do not own, tell us in the comments and we will work out how to cover them.

What if I am still on Ubuntu 16.04 or 18.04?

Ubuntu Pro covers 16.04 onwards, and Canonical's Legacy add-on extends security maintenance to 15 years in total. If you would rather move on, tick the release upgrade and we will plan it server by server.

Is there a free version?

Yes. Canonical offers Ubuntu Pro free for personal use, or for a business you own, on up to five machines. Beyond that, or if you need support, you need the business subscription.

Prefer to talk it through?

You can also email or call us and we will go through it together.
