There are not many places left where a whole mainframe team can be trained in Spanish, English and French. We deliver the forty-six official IBM courses on z/OS, IBM Z and z/VM. They are taught by the same engineers who run these systems in production, several of the team are IBM Champions, and the labs run on a real z/OS.

The ideal path
For someone joining a mainframe, the order that works is system fundamentals (ES10G) to start finding your way around the system, JCL and utilities (ES07G) to write JCL and understand why a job fails, and then the specialisation. Nine days, and the team stops depending on somebody else for ordinary tasks.
When a whole team has to be trained at once with people heading in different directions, the z/OS bootcamp (ESZ0G) covers that route and a good deal more over ten consecutive days, with sixteen units and eleven labs.
From there the path forks by role: operations, systems programming, security, networking or performance.
By level
Beginner. the introduction to the z/OS environment (ES05G) to get your bearings in two days, system fundamentals (ES10G) to start working and ES15G to learn what each piece of the system does. ES89G looks at the machine rather than the operating system, and MV10G explains what a sysplex is in a day.
Intermediate. Operations with ES27G, ES28G and ES24G. Data with JCL and utilities (ES07G) and SS83G. Programming with ES34G, ES35G and ES52G. Security with ES19G and BE87G. Networking with CB69G. And the UNIX services with OP05G, or OP25G if they also have to be built.
Expert. Systems programming: ES20G, ES40G, ES26G, ES41G, ES96G and ESB3G. Sysplex: ES42G, ES73G and ES90G. Performance: ES54G and ES85G. Advanced security: ES88G, SZ81G, ES84G, ES66G and ESS10G. Networking: NW75G and NW79G. And SM937G to get the system bringing itself up.
Virtualisation on IBM Z
ZV02G places z/VM in three days and ZV06G installs and maintains it in five. ZV20G puts the directory and security in order with DirMaint and RACF. And ZV45G covers KVM, the alternative when the team comes from Linux.
For containers inside z/OS itself, ESX0G walks through zCX in two days. And if what is on the table is a blockchain network, ESE0G is there to decide with judgement before building anything.
About releases
z/OS 3.2 is the most recent release, the one IBM announces on its product page today and the one supporting IBM z17. Among the 2.x, 2.5 is the one still in support in the lifecycle table; 2.3 and 2.4 have been withdrawn, and 2.2 keeps extended support until 30 September 2027.
We still deliver ESC8G and ESC9G, covering what was new in 2.3 and 2.4, because estates are still there and need to know what changed before moving. If preparing the jump is what you face, tell us and we build whatever migration route is needed. And either way, the course is taught on the release you have installed: that does not change.
