[ 01 ]Why this course

Design and operate a
serious vSphere estate.

Four days of intensive workshop to build the knowledge, skills and judgement needed to design a VMware vSphere virtual infrastructure that guarantees availability, manageability, performance, disaster recovery and security — applying the best practices recommended by VMware.

A hands-on course built from our experience as trainers and consultants in Virtualization, Cloud and DevOps. We start from the ESXi hypervisor, deploy vCenter, configure distributed networking and shared storage, and finish with HA, DRS and Fault Tolerance clusters on a dedicated lab.

[ 02 ]Who it's for · what you take away

A workshop for teams that already administer systems

It's for your team if…

  • You are system administrators, architects or pre-sales engineers with UNIX or Linux experience.
  • You are about to bring up a virtualized infrastructure with ESXi and vSphere from scratch.
  • You already run ESXi and want to master HA, DRS and Fault Tolerance in production.
  • You are pre-sales or architects who need to defend vSphere designs with technical solvency.

This isn't a course to start learning Linux. For profiles without that base, we recommend one of our intensive GNU/Linux administration courses first.

By the end you're operating

  • You install and configure ESXi and vCenter Server from scratch.
  • You design the virtual network with Distributed Switches, VLANs and port groups.
  • You configure shared storage — iSCSI, SAN and NAS.
  • You run live migrations with vMotion and balance load with DRS.
  • You configure a HA cluster and fault-tolerant VMs with Fault Tolerance.
  • You apply VMware best practices for availability, performance, DR and security.

What the enrolment brings

SIXE in-house materials

Materials produced in-house, kept current from our experience in VMware deployments and migrations over the past 12 years.

Live demos

The instructor runs each concept live on the projected vCenter — you see theory turn into clicks, commands and real clusters.

Exercise book with solutions

Step-by-step workbook with instructions, commands and solutions — you take it home to review and use as reference.

Dedicated lab

A dedicated lab environment for each attendee — no shared cluster, everyone breaks and rebuilds at their own pace.

In-house instructors

Our own engineers with 12 years of experience in VMware virtualization deployments, migrations and training.

Certificate of attendance (optional)

SIXE certificate of attendance and achievement, if you need it to justify the training internally.

[ 06 ]Frequent questions

Frequently asked questions

Is this official VMware or Broadcom training?

No — it's an in-house SIXE course with materials produced in-house from our experience as consultants and trainers. We teach the VMware product with real deployment judgement, applying the best practices recommended by VMware. If you specifically need the official VMware certification, that is contracted separately.

What version of vSphere is used in the lab?

We work with the latest stable VMware vSphere release available at the time of the training. If your environment is on a previous version that you have to operate in production, we adapt the lab so what is practised matches what you will find when you get back to the office.

What background do I need?

Reasonable experience in UNIX or Linux at administration level, basic notions of networking (TCP/IP, VLANs) and of storage (iSCSI, NFS, SAN). It is not a course to start with Linux — for that, we recommend one of our intensive GNU/Linux administration courses first.

Can it be delivered remotely? Is the duration adjustable?

Yes. We deliver on-site or remote, in Spanish, English and French, with a dedicated lab per attendee accessible over the network. Content and duration can be modified at the customer's request — for instance, extending the HA/DRS block, or shortening the fundamentals if the team already has them nailed.

How many attendees can join, and at what price?

The workshop is delivered in-company, with pricing per group depending on size, format and language. Tell us your case — number of attendees, location, dates — and we come back with a concrete proposal.

Tell us about your environment

Tell us how many of you there are, which vSphere version you run (or if you're starting from scratch), and in which language. We come back with a concrete proposal — format, dates and instructor — not a boilerplate quote.
