[ 01 ]Why this course

Satellite, without licences.
Foreman in production.

Foreman is the technology behind Red Hat Satellite. It automates deployment, updates and maintenance of physical and virtual systems, generates detailed inventories of the data centre, controls software version migration and monitors the whole estate proactively.

This workshop is designed for system administration teams that want to adopt the solution in its open source form, without buying Red Hat licences. We deploy Foreman with Katello and the Ansible connector from scratch, with real deployment judgement.

[ 02 ]Who it's for · what you take away

A workshop for teams with serious infrastructure

It's for your team if…

  • You are Linux administrators (Red Hat, Ubuntu) or UNIX (Solaris, AIX, HP-UX) with real experience.
  • You want Satellite superpowers without buying Red Hat licences.
  • You need detailed inventory, provisioning and software lifecycle across physical and virtual estate.
  • You are architects or pre-sales who need to defend designs with real technical judgement.

This isn't a course to start with Linux. For profiles without that base, we recommend an intensive GNU/Linux administration course first.

By the end you're operating

  • You install and configure Foreman on CentOS Linux from scratch.
  • You compare Foreman with Red Hat Satellite and its versions to decide with judgement.
  • You provision and configure environments, and manage the software lifecycle.
  • You apply role-based access control (RBAC) with granular permissions.
  • You integrate Katello for content management and Ansible for automation.
  • You install and configure additional plugins matched to the environment.

The instructor runs each concept live — Foreman projected, provisioning running, real output on screen.

Exercise book with solutions

Step-by-step workbook with instructions, commands and solutions — you take it home to review and use as reference.

Dedicated lab

Own environment for each attendee with Foreman deployed — no shared instance, everyone breaks and rebuilds at their own pace.

[ 06 ]Frequent questions

Frequently asked questions

Is Foreman a real alternative to Red Hat Satellite?

Yes, with honest caveats. Foreman is the upstream technology of Satellite: most of the key features — provisioning, inventory, lifecycle, RBAC, Ansible integration — are available in open source. We compare both in Block 1 so you know what stays inside and what Red Hat adds in its paid version.

Does it work if we manage UNIX (Solaris, AIX, HP-UX)?

Yes. Although Foreman is installed on CentOS Linux, it manages a mixed UNIX and Linux estate. The course starts from administrators with UNIX experience (Solaris, AIX, HP-UX) in addition to Linux (Red Hat, Ubuntu), and the lab can be aligned with your real estate.

What background do I need?

Solid experience in UNIX or Linux at administration level. This isn't a course to start with Linux — for that, we recommend one of our intensive GNU/Linux administration courses first.

Can it be delivered remotely? Is the duration adjustable?

Yes. We deliver on-site or remote, in Spanish, English and French, with a dedicated lab per attendee accessible over the network. Content and duration can be modified at the customer's request — for instance, extending the Ansible section or compressing the installation if the team already has experience.

How many attendees can join, and at what price?

The workshop is delivered in-company, with pricing per group depending on size, format and language. Tell us your case — number of attendees, location, dates — and we come back with a concrete proposal.

Tell us about your estate

Tell us how many of you there are, which distributions and UNIX you run, and in which language. We come back with a concrete proposal — format, dates and instructor — not a boilerplate quote.
