HCI or Software Defined?

IBM Storage Fusion is available as Software (to install on your hardware/cloud) or as an Appliance (HCI).

Expert Tip: If you are looking for deployment speed and a single point of support (hardware+software), choose HCI.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Fusion HCI include OpenShift licenses?
Yes, the appliance includes both the optimized hardware (control, compute, and storage nodes) and the necessary software (OpenShift Container Platform and Storage Fusion) ready to use.
Can I connect Fusion HCI to the public cloud?
Absolutely. It is designed for hybrid cloud. Thanks to AFM (Active File Management), you can create a transparent cache of data stored in AWS S3, Azure Blob, or IBM Cloud Object Storage.
Who provides technical support?
You have a single point of contact with IBM for the entire stack (hardware and software). Additionally, SIXE offers managed services for day-to-day administration.

IBM Spectrum Fusion

The first native storage solution for containers based on IBM Spectrum Scale

IBM Spectrum Fusion: native solution for hybrid clouds with Red Hat Openshift

IBM Spectrum Fusion is a native data solution for Red Hat OpenShift-based hybrid clouds. Converges existing container storage technologies (Kubernetes) with the market-leading software-defined storage technology, IBM Spectrum Scale. This technology provides advanced data lifecycle management, including automatic disaster recovery, use of remote caches, or support across geographically distributed sites. The HCI edition will be the industry’s first container-centric hyper-converged system. Although competing HCI systems support containers, most are focused on virtual machines, which are also supported. IBM Spectrum Fusion works “out of the box”, being designed by and for containers running on top of Red Hat OpenShift. There is no better, faster and cheaper place for data than IBM Spectrum Fusion.

The first container-centric HCI platform

The solution is designed to integrate with IBM Cloud Satellite and Red Hat Advanced Cluster Manager for full integration with cloud environments, wherever they are. IBM is still committed to a “round-trip” path, where at any time we have the option of deciding which workloads we run in our data centers or in the cloud without compromising the performance or security of our applications. The release of IBM Spectrum Fusion goes hand in hand with the new Flash System and ESS (Elastic Storage Systems) storage servers. Spectrum Fusion follows the line already established in IBM to offer customers the possibility of acquiring only the software or the complete infrastructure of storage and servers, in the same line of Elastic Storage System (ESS) based on IBM incorporates Spectrum Scale and is offered as standalone software to suit the needs of each customer’s infrastructure.
