Frequently asked questions
A dashboard or a report? A dashboard is for looking and exploring: few figures, visual, interactive. A report is for delivering: structured, paginated, fixed layout. They are built with different tools inside the same product.
What is a story in Cognos? A sequence of scenes built on the same data, with its own timeline. It walks someone to a conclusion step by step instead of dropping a whole dashboard on them.
Does it fit our release? The courseware is 11.1.x. 11.0 and 11.1 are out of support and 11.2 left standard support in April 2026; the current one is 12.1. It is delivered on whichever you have.
