IBM Power S1112

The new entry-level server in the Power11 range. One socket, up to 10 cores, 512 GB DDR5 and 12.8 TB NVMe in a 2U half-rack or tower. With sales, migration and support by SIXE.

What the S1112 is

The new entry-level Power11.

The S1112 replaces the Power S1012 as the entry point into the Power11 range. The important point: this is not a different chip. It is the same Power11 eSCM processor that ships in the S1122 and the larger models, in a single-socket 2U half-width chassis — it fits alongside another system in the same rack tray.

IBM positions it for two specific use cases: edge deployments — factory floor, healthcare, retail, transport — and as an entry point for IBM i customers thanks to the P05 Software Tier, the cheapest one. A node in a branch office, a test environment isomorphic to production, or a small contingency replica are the natural fits.

The rack version (9242-21B) scales up to 10 cores at 3.05–4.0 GHz. The tower version (9242-21T) stays at 4 cores at 3.60–4.0 GHz — the 10-core bin is not available in the tower form factor. Both share 512 GB DDR5 across 4 DIMMs and 12.8 TB NVMe in 4 U.2 bays. Firmware, hypervisor and the operating system support matrix are identical to the rest of the Power11 range.

Power11 technology

What's inside a Power S1112.

MMA on-chip for AI without an external GPU, PowerVM Enterprise included, embedded quantum-safe encryption and the RAS capabilities of the full Power11 range.

On-chip MMA

AI inference without an external GPU

Every Power11 core carries Matrix Math Accelerator units on the Dense Math Engine microarchitecture. Fraud detection, scoring, log analysis, embeddings — datacenter-grade latency without leaving the socket or adding infrastructure.

Performance

2.5× per core vs Power10

IBM claims up to 2.5× more performance per core compared with the previous generation. Combined with the new DDIMM DDR5 4000/4800 MHz memory subsystem and Enhanced OMI, an S1112 handles workloads that previously required two sockets.

Virtualisation

PowerVM Enterprise included

PowerVM Enterprise Edition is bundled in the S1112 price (feature #EPVT). Live Partition Mobility with on-chip encryption, Active Memory Expansion and VIOS as standard. The same virtualisation as the E1180, no separate licence.

Security

Embedded quantum-safe

Post-quantum encryption embedded into the architecture: it protects critical functions like secure boot and secure LPM. Power RAS with proactive detection and self-healing — the same security hardware as the top of the range.

Where it fits

The full Power11 family.

Five models, one processor. The S1112 is the new bottom rung; from there you scale within the same architecture, without changing firmware or support matrix.

How we work

Sales, migration and support · through the same door.

SIXE closes the whole loop. We are an IBM Business Partner providing Power sales, migration and support since 2009. We do not resell hardware and disappear afterwards.

01 · Sales

Sizing and procurement

We pick the right configuration without oversizing, and purchase runs through the authorised IBM channel.

  • Sizing based on real workload: LPARs, effective RAM, IOPS and network traffic
  • Rack vs tower depending on physical environment (data centre, branch, factory floor)
  • Quote with itemised lines: hardware, software, services
  • Honest comparison against the x86 alternative when it applies
02 · Migration

From POWER8/9/10 or x86

Controlled cut-over window and rollback plan at every phase. No surprises during the window.

  • AIX 7.x and IBM i 7.x — level and PTF review beforehand
  • Linux on Power — kernel, driver and toolchain rebase
  • Live Partition Mobility when the topology allows
  • Performance testing with real workload before and after
03 · Support

Ongoing, in your language

L2/L3 support for AIX, IBM i, PowerVM and Linux on Power. Also for POWER9 and POWER10 without IBM cover.

  • Written SLAs, no verbal promises
  • Direct access to senior engineers, not a ticket lost in a queue
  • PowerHA, HMC and VIOS within scope
  • Independent support when IBM withdraws cover
Let's talk

Does the S1112 fit what you have today?

POWER8, POWER9, POWER10 or x86 — send us the details of your workload and we will return a proposal with hardware, migration and support itemised separately in a few days.
