This course will expose the beginning z/OS DBAs (Database Administrators) to fundamentals of Database Administration for a Db2 12 for z/OS. This course will teach the students how to physically implement a logical database design using DDL, and teaches considerations of referentially related tables. This course discusses the use of basic utilities, program preparation, serialization, and basic database security. This course does not cover distributed data processing, nor does it cover data sharing.

Audience:Mainframe z/OS DBAs taking on Db2 administration for the first time, z/OS operations staff managing the Db2 subsystem, and candidates for the IBM C1000-122 or C1000-078 certification.
Prerequisites:Familiarity with z/OS (TSO, ISPF, SDSF) and basic SQL.

  • Db2 relational database concepts
  • SQL and SPUFI: SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE, COMMIT, ROLLBACK and joins
  • Db2 objects — storage groups, databases and table spaces
  • Db2 objects — tables, indexes, views and referential integrity
  • Utilities — LOAD, UNLOAD, CHECK DATA, RUNSTATS, REORG
  • Db2 commands, log archiving and program preparation
  • The Db2 system — zParms, address spaces, buffer pools, logging and security
  • Shutdown, startup and recovery with COPY and RECOVER
