The IBM FlashSystem 5045, 5600, 7600, 9600 and C200 are high-performance all-flash NVMe storage arrays for open systems. The 5600, 7600 and 9600 models, available since March 2026, feature fifth-generation FlashCore Modules with capacities of up to 105.6 TB per module.

Built on an NVMe EDSFF architecture and the SAN Volume Controller (SVC), the arrays are easy to manage, virtualize, replicate (via HyperSwap or Stretched Cluster) and migrate. FlashSystem.ai turns storage into an autonomous system that cuts manual administration effort by up to 90 %. It is part of the IBM Storage ecosystem alongside solutions like Storage Scale (GPFS) y Storage Fusion.

All arrays include hardware compression, deduplication, snapshots, encryption at rest (with quantum-safe encryption on Gen 5 FCMs) and replication. The 5600, 7600 and 9600 models feature modules of up to 105.6 TB with inline threat detection in under 60 seconds. They integrate with IBM Storage Defender for full data protection and are ideal for consolidating virtual machine, container y critical database environments.

FlashSystem C200: all-flash for archive and backup

The C200 extends the FlashSystem family to high-capacity workloads: archive, backup, media streaming and disaster recovery. With 1.1 PB raw and up to 2.3 PBe in just 2U, it consolidates entire racks of HDDs while saving 71 % of rack space.

It uses Gen 4 FlashCore Modules with always-on encryption, hardware compression and the same ransomware detection as the rest of the family. As part of the FlashSystem Grid, it enables non-disruptive data mobility between arrays — a modern alternative to traditional backup repositories.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between FlashSystem 5600, 7600 and 9600?
All three share the same platform (IBM Storage Virtualize) and fifth-generation FlashCore Modules. The 5600 (1U) is optimized for edge and remote office environments. The 7600 balances performance and capacity for enterprise workloads. The 9600 is the high end: up to 6.3M IOPS and 11.8 PBe in 2U. If you need help sizing, get in touch.
What is FlashSystem.ai?
The agentic AI layer built into the 5600, 7600 and 9600 models. It acts as an autonomous co-administrator: automating provisioning, tuning, diagnostics and compliance. It cuts manual admin effort by up to 90 % and generates audit documentation with explainable reasoning.
Which FlashSystem should I choose for SAP HANA?
All arrays are certified for SAP HANA. For high-performance production we recommend the 7600 or 9600. For development or QA, the 5600 or 5045 may be sufficient.
How does FlashSystem protect against ransomware?
FlashCore Modules analyze every I/O operation in hardware and compare statistics every 2 seconds against known ransomware patterns. They alert in under 60 seconds with less than 1 % false positives. Safeguarded Copy creates immutable snapshots so data can be recovered in minutes. It complements SIEM solutions such as Wazuh o IBM QRadar.
Can I migrate from Dell, NetApp or Pure Storage?
Yes. IBM Storage Virtualize lets you virtualize third-party storage for non-disruptive migrations. Migrations from other vendors are part of our turnkey projects.
Is FlashSystem compatible with IBM Power and AIX?
Yes. FlashSystem is IBM's preferred storage choice for IBM Power11 systems with AIX, IBM i and Linux on Power. Integration with PowerHA, LPAR and PowerVM is native, making it the ideal storage foundation for mission-critical Power workloads.
What's the difference between the C200 and the rest of the range?
The C200 uses Gen 4 FCMs optimized for capacity (46 TB per module) rather than peak performance. It's designed for archive, backup and streaming with 1-2 ms latency. The advantage: 1.1 PB raw in 2U, versus the 15U that equivalent HDDs would require.
