For the desk that needs more than office apps

The EPYC 4245P is from AMD's 4000 series, which uses the same AM5 socket as Ryzen, with 6 cores and 12 threads, here in a mini tower 92 mm wide. Compared with the AS-C521D-31101U it adds two more cores, which you notice when the desk has several heavy applications open at once, such as a design program alongside email and a browser. Like all three mini towers, it has a 5 GbE port, which copies files from a NAS at five times the nominal speed of a 1 GbE port if the switch and the NAS run at 5 or 10 GbE.

The 16 GB is the board's maximum according to the datasheet, so for virtual machines or very large datasets you need the AS-C521D-11302U, which goes up to 32. Windows 11 Home cannot join Active Directory or Entra ID, and if the machine has to join a domain, the upgrade to Pro goes into the quote.

Questions about the AS-C521D-21101U

Why an EPYC in a desktop computer?

AMD makes the EPYC 4000 series for the same AM5 socket as desktop Ryzen processors, so it fits this mini tower unchanged and in day-to-day use performs like a 6-core desktop processor. Note, though, that the board uses non-ECC memory, so here the EPYC does not bring the memory protection it would have in a server.

Can it be upgraded to Windows 11 Pro?

Yes, with a Microsoft upgrade licence and no reinstall. If the machine has to join the domain, we include it in the quote; if you also want more performance, compare it with the AS-C521D-11302U, which already comes with Pro.

Can I add a graphics card?

No: the mini tower has no PCIe slots and the power supply is 300 W. It drives several screens from the integrated graphics through its HDMI 2.1 and two USB4 ports with DisplayPort output, and if the desk needs a dedicated GPU, the machine to look at is the SYS-C542i-11302U.
