Lenovo ThinkSystem rack servers

The SR630 V4 in 1U and the SR650 V4 in 2U, with one or two Intel Xeon 6 processors, for virtualisation, databases and internal services, including a RAG setup that runs without a GPU. We deliver them with Proxmox or VMware, or migrated from what you run today.

Choose by what you'll run

Lots of virtual machines in little rack space

1U with up to 86 performance cores or 144 efficient cores per processor. Lenovo has validated its CPU-only RAG configuration, Hybrid AI 201, on this server.

More drives and slots to grow into

2U with up to 40 × 2.5" drives, ten PCIe slots and space for two double-width GPUs. For databases, Ceph or virtualisation with local storage.

Before you ask for a price

1U or 2U?

The SR630 V4 gives you more cores per rack unit; the SR650 V4, more drives, more PCIe slots and room for GPUs. If you're unsure, the question is how many drives and how many cards you need inside each server.

What your data centre needs

The SR630 V4 has two power supplies of up to 2,000 W and the SR650 V4 two of up to 3,200 W. Both are air-cooled and support Neptune Core, which uses water to take heat away from the processors. We go through your power per rack and cabinet depth with you: the SR650 V4 is 796 mm deep.

Why buy it from us

The server arrives installed and tested with your workload, and if it ever fails you call the same team that put it into service.

We start from what will run on it: how many virtual machines, which database, how much memory and how many drives. That tells us whether a 1U is enough or you need a 2U, and with which processors.

We rack it, configure XClarity and the firmware, and install Proxmox, VMware ESXi, RHEL, Ubuntu, SLES or Windows Server with the network and storage ready.

When something breaks you talk to the engineers who commissioned that machine, and if you need it there's 24×7 on-call cover with a contractual SLA. It's the same independent support we provide for IBM Power, Linux and Ceph estates.

We're an IBM Business Partner and partners of Red Hat, SUSE, Canonical and CIQ. With CIQ we install Rocky Linux for AI, with the NVIDIA driver and CUDA already validated, on the same servers.

We work in all three languages, support included, so if your company has teams in several countries they deal with the same group of engineers.

Frequently asked questions

SR630 V4 or SR650 V4?

The SR630 V4 takes 1U and supports efficient-core Xeon 6, with up to 144 cores per processor, a good fit for virtualisation and dense container workloads. The SR650 V4 takes 2U and holds up to 40 × 2.5" drives, ten PCIe slots and two double-width GPUs, which makes it the one for databases, storage and workloads that are going to grow.

Can you run RAG without a GPU?

For a few users, yes. Lenovo has validated Hybrid AI 201 on an SR630 V4 with two Xeon 6 processors and 256 GB of memory, no GPU, serving a 14-billion-parameter model. In Lenovo's tests, run on an equivalent machine, with 16 users at once, it takes about three seconds to start answering. For more users or larger models you need GPUs, and that's where the SR650a V4 comes in.

Can I stay on VMware?

Yes: Lenovo certifies both with VMware ESXi 8.0 U3, 9.0 and 9.1 (with Xeon 6700E, 9.1 only). And if you want to move off VMware, we migrate you to Proxmox: we explain how in VMware to Proxmox migration.

Do you install Proxmox?

Yes. Proxmox isn't on the list of operating systems Lenovo certifies, so we test it with your configuration before we hand the server over.

Do you publish list prices?

No, because the price depends on the processors, memory, drives, network and warranty you choose. We send you a quote with a confirmed lead time for the configuration that suits you.

Which one fits what you're building?

Tell us what will run on it, whether that's virtual machines, a database, storage or RAG, and we'll come back with the configuration, the price and a confirmed lead time.
