Dense virtualisation in 1U

With efficient-core Xeon 6 it reaches 144 cores per processor, which is what a virtualisation or container cluster with lots of small workloads needs. With performance cores, up to 86 per processor, it's a better fit for databases and applications that depend on per-core speed.

Lenovo has validated Hybrid AI 201 on it, a RAG setup that runs without a GPU. In Lenovo's tests, with 16 users at once it takes about three seconds to start answering. That's enough for one department; for the whole company you need GPUs.

What we do

We install it with Proxmox, VMware ESXi, RHEL, Ubuntu, SLES or Windows Server. If you're setting up Hybrid AI 201, the stack is Canonical's, Ubuntu with Canonical Kubernetes, and we're Canonical partners: we deploy it with your documents and leave it running. More detail in RAG with Docling.

What your data centre needs

It takes 1U and is 788 mm deep. It has two redundant power supplies from 800 to 2,000 W and is air-cooled with up to eight fans, with Neptune Core as an option for the processors. Heat builds up in 1U, so if you're going to fill a rack we go through the power and cooling with you.

Hybrid AI 201: RAG without a GPU

Lenovo has validated a configuration on this server that answers questions about your documents using only the CPU: Ubuntu, Canonical Kubernetes, vLLM with a 14-billion-parameter model, Docling to read the documents and OpenSearch for search.

Questions about the ThinkSystem SR630 V4

SR630 V4 or SR650 V4?

The SR630 V4 takes 1U, up to 12 × 2.5" drives and three PCIe slots, and it's the only one of the two that accepts efficient-core Xeon 6. The SR650 V4 takes 2U, up to 40 drives, ten PCIe slots and two double-width GPUs. For dense virtualisation, the SR630 V4; for data and growth, the SR650 V4.

How far does RAG go without a GPU?

For a few users, yes. Hybrid AI 201 serves a 14-billion-parameter model on the CPU alone. Lenovo measured the results on an equivalent machine and recommends confirming them on the final configuration. With more users or larger models you need GPUs: the SR650a V4.

What warranty does it come with?

One or three years depending on the model, with an on-site engineer next business day. On top of that we can provide our 24×7 on-call support with SLA.
