Official Turbonomic: Container Platform Optimization Course (TN930G)

3.075,00€

Official IBM course on optimising Kubernetes and OpenShift with Turbonomic over three days: Kubeturbo, container rightsizing, pod placement, SLO-based scaling and cluster scaling. In English, Spanish or French, for private groups from your organisation.

Description

This official IBM course takes Turbonomic into Kubernetes and Red Hat OpenShift, where spending climbs as soon as requests are oversized and nodes sit half empty. Over three days it covers how Turbonomic discovers clusters, rightsizes each container, moves pods to avoid bottlenecks, scales horizontally to meet SLOs and adds or suspends nodes according to what the application demands. We deliver it to closed groups from your organisation, in English, Spanish or French, using IBM’s official syllabus and materials. And if you also use IBM Instana, which supplies the response time Turbonomic relies on for SLO-based scaling, we can combine it with that training and with the implementation of both tools.

Turbonomic: Container Platform Optimization TN930G course details

Code: TN930GCategory: IBM Turbonomic
Delivery: on site at your offices, or live online with a remote labDuration in days: 3 (24 hours)
Level: advancedLanguage: English, Spanish or French
Group: private, from two delegatesPrevious course: IBM Turbonomic Administration (TN902G)

Who the course is for

Consultants, system administrators, DevOps engineers, operators and SREs (the engineers responsible for service reliability) who manage Kubernetes or OpenShift clusters.

Recommended prerequisites:

  • IBM lists its two online introductory courses as prerequisites: IBM Turbonomic Introduction (DL32000G) and IBM Turbonomic Cloud Cost Management (DL32001G).
  • We also recommend working knowledge of Kubernetes or OpenShift: pods, deployments, requests and limits. If that is missing, our Red Hat OpenShift and Docker, Podman and Kubernetes courses cover it.
  • Anyone who has not administered Turbonomic before should start with TN902G.

Course agenda and syllabus

The official syllabus is split into ten units:

Unit 1: An overview of container platform optimisation
How Turbonomic balances performance and cost in a container environment.

Unit 2: Discovering container platform environments
Kubeturbo, the component deployed in each cluster so that Turbonomic can see it and act on it, and support for Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization.

Unit 3: Full-stack visualisation
From application to node in a single view, including data from application performance tools such as IBM Instana.

Unit 4: Optimised vertical resizing
Adjusting the requests and limits of each container.

Unit 5: Continuous pod placement
Moving pods proactively to avoid resource fragmentation and bottlenecks as demand rises and falls.

Unit 6: SLO-based horizontal scaling
Adding or removing replicas to meet service level objectives, including large language model (LLM) inference workloads.

Unit 7: Dynamic cluster scaling
Provisioning and suspending nodes according to the application’s resource demand.

Unit 8: Container platform planning
Scenarios for optimising clusters and for migrating workloads from one cluster to another.

Unit 9: Container dashboards and SaaS reporting
Turbonomic’s container dashboards and the reports in the SaaS edition.

Unit 10: Common troubleshooting techniques
How to diagnose Kubeturbo deployments.

The course also covers advanced integrations with Prometurbo, which brings Prometheus metrics into Turbonomic, and with Operator Resource Mapping (ORM), which lets actions apply to operator-managed workloads.

Need specific dates or a tailored syllabus? Ask for dates and a quote for your group.

How we deliver it

With a closed group, questions can revolve around your own clusters, SLOs and workloads, AI inference included, which is hard to raise in an open session alongside delegates from other companies. We also adjust content, exercises and duration when the official syllabus is too broad or too narrow for your case, with a proposal within 24 working hours.

Added value

If your team uses Instana or plans to, the Advanced Administering Environments with IBM Instana Observability (TN202G) course completes the path. And as an IBM Business Partner we can include Instana and Turbonomic implementation on your clusters and IBM licensing, with licence audits and renewals, in the same proposal.
