A four-node cluster in two rack units

A Proxmox cluster with Ceph, a four-worker Kubernetes or a web farm fits here in full: 256 cores and 2 TB of memory spread across four servers that share chassis and power supplies, each with its own operating system and its own BMC (the remote management controller). The 100 GbE per node gives Ceph the network it needs to replicate without becoming the bottleneck.

Sharing a chassis has its downside: a fault in the shared parts affects all four nodes, and the density concentrates heat and power draw in 2U, so the power per rack deserves some sums beforehand. Bear in mind too that the EPYC 9534 belongs to the 9004 series and uses DDR5-4800, one generation behind the EPYC 9005 in this family.

What we do

We deliver it as a ready-built cluster: Proxmox VE with Ceph on each node's bays, or Kubernetes with persistent storage on Ceph, with the 100 GbE network split between client and replication traffic and each BMC registered in your monitoring tool.

Questions about the AS-2115GT-HNTR-01-G2

Is each node an independent server?

Each node has its own board, processor, memory, drives and BMC, and can be powered off or rebooted without affecting the others. What they share is the chassis and the two redundant power supplies, so for the operating system and for management they count as four machines.

How many drives does each node take?

Each node supports up to six hot-swap 2.5-inch NVMe or SATA drives. The Gold configuration includes 960 GB SATA SSDs for the operating system, so the data drives, or the OSDs (the drives Ceph manages), are added according to the size of the cluster.

How much memory does each node support?

Each node has twelve slots, one per channel, and with the EPYC 9534 it reaches 3 TB at 4,800 MT/s. The standard 512 GB gives 8 GB per core, enough for containers and web services; if the cluster is going to host large virtual machines, it is worth adding memory from the outset.
